Blue Partridge Brahma

If you want a chicken that commands the eye, Blue Partridge Brahmas will definitely fit the bill! Huge and upright they put off a look of regal reign complete with an eagle like look and gaze. We have found them to be extremely calm and personable. The chicks are easily tamed making them a wonderful addition to the family. Brahmas fit the description well as a dual-purpose breed. The hens are productive layers of large tinted eggs. This line of rare european Blue Partridge Brahmas originated with Greenfire Farms which they no longer breed. A lot of large hatchery places do not work with this color due to its difficulty to produce. Blue Partridge is a double recessive gene meaning you need both sets of carrier traits to show in the same bird for the Blue Partridge color to show. Even breeding blue partridge adults can still result in offspring that are blue partridge, blue buff, splash partridge, and dark partridge. Most of these colors are too difficult to tell apart until 3-6 weeks old and thus the reason they aren't carried and sold at larger volume and remain very rare and expensive. The original brahmas were extremely large and over time a smaller bird was developed. The accepted standard now calls for an 11 lb. rooster. A healthy Brahma hen should lay 140 – 180 eggs per year and achieve a weight of between 6 – 8lbs and a rooster should achieve a weight of between 8 -12lbs on average. Our rooster "Macho" is around 17 lbs and peaks  at 28" tall.
